We are delighted that you are interested in applying to Oak Hill Academy. As you become familiar with the school you will find Oak Hill Academy to be an exciting, challenging, and supportive academic environment that offers each pupil an opportunity to develop to his/her full potential in a loving and secure environment.
We hope that your family will join our great team, and help us prove to our children that we believe in them!
We are well known for our balanced educational program for body and mind, heart and soul, while incorporating art, sport, and community service. We believe in our pupils! We want to give them the opportunity to grow into their best selves, and to reach out to embrace and empower themselves with the knowledge they will receive from the best education.
Our programme carefully considers all aspects of a child’s development: emotional, social, physical, and cognitive. We believe that children can best acquire a rich body of knowledge and the skills needed for future learning through a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and that builds upon itself year by year. We believe that our curriculum will inspire a love of learning, build self-confidence, and foster in our students the ability and desire to contribute to their community.
We realize that the first years of a child’s academic life are crucial ones in establishing positive attitudes and disposition toward learning. We value a young child’s natural desire to learn through creativity and self-expression. We strive to build upon our students’ curiosity, while instilling in them a spirit of cooperation, a respect for others and for their ideas, and a satisfaction in personal intellectual growth.
Dear Prospective Oak Hill Academy Families
I am honoured to take this opportunity to briefly introduce myself. My name is Debbie Brandsma and I have the privilege of being the principal of Oak Hill Academy Private Preparatory School, a post I have held for the past six years. I am married and have 3 children aged 28, 22 and 15.
I have been in the field of education for the last 25 years. I taught Foundation Phase for approximately 11 years and have been a school Principal for 14 years. My professional experience has involved working with diverse groups of students, including general education, gifted and special needs children.
From the perspective of education, both private and public, I am very familiar with what we offer parents. That is why I am confident that our school will be a welcome option for families looking for a quality, affordable, dynamic experience for their children. I am confident that our amazing teachers will continue meeting the intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs of your children, our students.
As a primary school principal, I realise the education of children is a difficult job and cannot be accomplished without the assistance of parents. I encourage parents to be active participants in the education of our students. There are many ways to do this. The easiest way, however, is to maintain effective lines of communication. We welcome ideas and volunteers throughout the year.
I look forward to meeting you and sharing what makes Oak Hill Academy special: our curriculum, the outstanding results of our students, they fact that we believe in each student and the way we treat our pupils.
In closing, I would like to invite you for a cup of coffee and a chat as my door is always open to parents and pupils.
In partnership with you,
Debbie Brandsma, Principal
Oak Hill Academy
Dear Prospective Parents
My name is Mr Raymond and I am the Grade R teacher at Little Bean Early Learning Centre.
I have been teaching Grade R from 2016 while also being the Principal for two years. This is my second-year teaching at Little Bean.
I am very passionate when it comes to teaching, especially when I see our little ones grow and grasp new concepts. Their little faces light up when you tell them how proud you are of them. That’s the best part of being a teacher.
We have a lot of fun in our Grade R class, but we also follow an amazing curriculum every day. Your Little one will be able to make new friends, learn to read, do sums and much, much more.
I look forward in meeting you and getting to know your Little Bean.
Hi! My name is Kirsten Solan, and I will be your child’s Grade 1 teacher at Oakhill Academy.I started teaching in 2007, I have been teaching for twelve years, I taught for four years at Little Bean 2. In 2012 I taught Grade 000 and in 2013-2014 I had the wonderful opportunity of teaching Grade 0. This is my fifth of year teaching grade 1. I am so excited to meet you and start our year together. I know you are going to love Grade 1. I am currently studying a foundation phase degree through Unisa, I am in my fifth year. I have a passion for children and education, it is my goal to ensure they have the best education possible.
I enjoy cooking, baking, painting my nails, reading crime and horror books as well as anything creative, but most of all I love teaching. The reason why I love teaching and children is that they are wonderful little humans who have nothing but love to offer. Their minds are like sponges – they are eager to learn, explore, discover and this is what makes teaching children fun.
I would like to have an open and honest line of communication with you the parents. My door is always open, should you feel the need to ask for advice or discuss something important. In Grade one the children do the following subjects: English, Maths, Afrikaans, Science and Life Skills, I am also going to do 30 minutes of Zulu a week. Life Skills is broken down into social studies, Phys ED, Creative Arts, Dance, Music and Drama.
To teach responsibility I encourage parents to empower their child to do tasks such as pack their own homework away and look after their belongings.
If your child needs some extra help with grasping a concept, I will notify you, if you could please help him/her practice at home as well.
I hope that we have a happy year together and your child will receive nothing but the best education.
Love Teacher Kirsten Solan.
My name is Teacher Lynette Malan and I will be teaching your child in Grade 2. I am a qualified teacher and I love teaching children and care deeply about each of my students. In my spare time I like to paint and draw and spend quality time with my husband and family. I love animals and I do have 4 dogs and 2 cats.
This is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. This is a year of important transitions, as well as one in which acquisition of new skills is accelerated.
Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready. Maintaining each child’s self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in my class.
Establishing good classroom discipline is essential to each child’s success, confidence and well-being. Every child should feel that the classroom environment is safe and secure; free from all threats of physical or emotional harm. In addition, it is important that each child learn to develop self-discipline and good work habits, to resolve conflicts peacefully, and to think independently.
The children will learn the purpose of classroom rules and develop the idea that our classroom is a community with the common purpose of learning, growing and becoming friends. Our classroom rules will protect each student’s right to safety and respect, as well as, outlining the responsibilities that each child has in maintaining class order.
I look forward to teaching your child and working with you to help your child achieve their fullest potential.
I hope you will enjoy grade 2.
Sincerely Teacher Lynette Malan

Welcome to Grade Four and the Intermediate Phase. I am excited about getting to know your children. My door has an important message:
Welcome to my classroom,
Where the heroes of history live again,
Where the earth shares its secrets,
And chemicals mix and boil,
And Scientists explore,
Where books are found,
And the Grade Fours find their home.
This describes what my classroom is all about. I teach Social Science and Natural Science to the Intermediate Phase and Life Skills to the Grade Fours.
I believe in a hands-on approach and a focus on multisensory learning so we will be doing Science as well as learning Science.
I have been teaching for 27 years and I love it. I completed my Bachelor of Primary Education, my Bachelor of Education(honours) and my Master of Education (philosophy) and am busy with a Bachelor of Arts in the classics and art history. My interests
include history, art and travel. I enjoy being creative and do a range of crafts. I love to read especially fantasy, historical fiction and
biographies. To relax I spend time with my pet rabbit, Holly and with my family.
Hope to meet you soon!
Miss Lynette Ziller
I would like to welcome everyone to our school, Oak Hill Academy.
I am Bronwen Ramdani, and I am the Afrikaans teacher as well as the grade 5’s as my registered class. I started teaching in 2013 and have taught a variety of grade’s ranging from 3 years to grade 6.
I love every moment of teaching. I find that children are always open to learning and exploring their environment when they feel loved and nurtured.
I also teach STEM Engineering to grade R’s, 1’s and 2’s. STEM teaches learners problem solving, experimenting, analyzing etc. Learners learn through also physically working with different materials.
I encourage learners to be themselves as there is no one better to be than yourself! To me each child is special. I love my students and will always go out of my way to help them academically and emotionally! I do not tolerate bullying in my class as we do our best to create a safe and loving environment for our learners.
We follow the CAPS curriculum with a twist. I have a great passion when it comes to teaching Afrikaans as a second language. When a learner feels confident in class in a nonjudgmental environment it is much easier to build on existing knowledge. My learners always say I am Google translate 3.0 which assists them in grasping Afrikaans which is their second or third language.
If a learner struggles with a subject or a specific concept taught in class, I will inform you for us to work together to help your child achieve success! The school offers extra academic lessons as well as private lessons.
I look forward to teaching your child and know we will have wonderful years together as a team.
I would like to thank you for entrusting me with your most prized possession.
Mrs. Bronwen Ramdani
My name is Stephen Muchairi and I will be the grade 6 teacher for 2020.
I have 16 years teaching experience. I did (University of Cambridge) Advanced level, Diploma in Education, Advanced Certificate in Education and Honours B.Ed.
I am not satisfied with the knowledge that I acquired and feel that there is still more to learn.
From my experiences in the classroom, teaching children from primary school right through to tertiary level I realised that teaching aids, namely technology, could bridge the gap between those who learn the conventional way and those who need aids. It is this conviction and the desire to give every child a fair chance at success that has motivated me to embark on my journey towards a Master’s in Mathematics. I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of children who would otherwise be left behind due to the limited research into their personal learning styles.
I am a qualified assessor/moderator registered with CETA, MICT SETA, MERSETA, FP&M SETA and ETDP SETA. I have worked with these Education Authorities for over 5 years. My interests in sports coaching include but are not limited to Chess, cricket and soccer.
Wherever I have worked with children with different capabilities it has resulted in improved grades. I intend to do the same for Oak Hill Academy children with the help of the parents. I am open to new ideas and new ways of teaching and learning and hope you will feel free to suggest anything that could be of help in improving teaching/learning.
Mr Stephen Muchairi
Hi, my name is Candice
I am a mother of 2 teenage boys, and live in Noordheuwel. I have been teaching preschool children for almost 12 years now. My passion lies in nurturing young minds, teaching them to think for themselves and developing self confidence in our small children. I enjoy teaching children through games and art.
Through my journey of teaching, I have found that teaching children to be creative releases for so many other channels for learning.
I currently teach the grade R students and am the Principal at Oak Hill Academy in Weltevreden Park.
